Aromatherapy for Babies

Can I Use Aromatherapy for Babies?

Aromatherapy has been used for quite a while now. While it may seem like it is a new concept, it has actually been around for many years. Aromatherapy is when plant extract is used in an aroma to enhance the well being for emotional and physical needs. These aromas have been used for skin conditions, including burns, relaxation, and stress relief. Many parents wonder if aromatherapy for babies is a safe option.

Aromatherapy for babies can be safe for babies that are over the age of 3 months. However, that does not mean that all essential oils are safe for babies. They can be used to help your baby sleep, relieve colic, and reduce anxiety that your baby may have. It is incredibly important that if you plan to use essential oils on your baby that you dilute the oil. It is important that you understand how to dilute properly so that you do not harm the skin of your baby.

In addition there are other ingredients that may be included in the aromatherapy oil that might harm your baby. It may include alcohol, which can irritate the skin of your baby. It may also include fragrances in a lab, which is not the same as an essential oil. They do not have any benefits for the baby. Your baby may have an allergic reaction to the ingredients in the oil. You must check the ingredients that are contained in the oil to ensure it is not something to which your baby may react. Your baby should never ingest any of these oils. It is not safe for babies to drink the oils.
